ARTIST STATEMENT

Anything Can Become Canvas

I am a Colombian-American Artist navigating identity through my practice. I was trained in the world of business but seek out interactions with remnants of history, music, sports, movies, literature, art & fashion. Through experimentation with various visual mediums and objects I seek to find the limits of my artistic expression and to explore the individual battle between others’ collectivist ideologies and one’s individualist desires. I create works on canvas, board, silver gelatin, scale-models, metal, glass, refuse, paper, shoes and clothing. My work highlights how even though our historical record is incomplete and ever changing, what remains can be assumed as objects even the uninformed saw value in preserving. Time is finite in one's life but it’s not linear. Through artifacts, the past remains present in the future.
